pilot Training at Newcastle Helicopters
Newcastle helicopters offers comprehensive courses for both theory and flight training at our Charter and Training center, which is situated at Newcastle Airport.
Our training is based on the Robinson R22 helicopter, however all of our aircraft are available for flight training and endorsements
Helicopter Pilot Training Introductory Flights
Have you ever wondered what it is like to fly helicopters? Well these flights are for you. First a short video, next a preflight inspection with your instructor then you're up and away at the controls for the time of your life.
If you then decide to go for either the private or commercial license, these introductory flights will count towards your total time.
How Much Will it Cost?
The cost of flying training will be a significant factor in your decision making. The cost will vary depending on the type of aircraft you fly (the more sophisticated the aircraft, the greater the cost), how often you fly (spreading your training over a long period will invariably mean more hours to achieve your goal) and how quickly you pick up on what's being taught.
What Educational Qualifications Do I Need?
CASA does not require any person undertaking an Australian pilot's license to hold formal educational qualifications. The education level required to pass the Private Pilot's license exams is well within the scope of the average person.
Validity of Qualifications
Once issued, a flight crew license is valid for life, however, the holder is required to undergo regular recency and medical checks. The frequency and degree of these tests depend upon the nature of the operations being conducted, the more complex the operation the more exacting the checks.
Aircraft endorsements are also valid for life. However, the onus is on the holder to ensure he or she has completed refresher training on the aircraft if he or she has not flown that type for some time.
Some ratings are valid while the license is valid, other are subject to periodic flight checks.
Medical Certificates
Although a medical certificate is not required for issue of a license, it is required before you undertake a flight test or are permitted to use the license. You must have regular medical examinations to keep your medical certificate current. Flight crew medical examinations are conducted by doctors approved by CASA. These doctors are known as Designated Aviation Medical Examiners or DAMEs. Our Staff can provide you with a list of DAME's before or when you start you training. A list is also available on the CASA web site.
